The holidays are filled with cheer, but they’re also filled with potential dangers for pets. In your own home, there are several holiday hazards you should be aware of. Keep the following in mind, so you can make sure your pets are safe from these hazards throughout the holidays.
Holiday Foods
Certain foods can cause life-threatening illnesses in dogs, such as chocolate and raisins, so keep candy and baked goods with these ingredients out of your pet’s reach. If you’re hosting a holiday dinner, keep in mind that onion and garlic can also make pets severely ill. Other hazardous foods and beverages include chicken or turkey bones, macadamia nuts, coffee, and yeast dough.
Christmas Trees
Christmas trees add a festive look to your apartment, but your pets might see them as sources of water or entertainment. If you have a live tree, make sure your pets can’t drink the water in the base. Your tree should also be firmly anchored so that it won’t tip over if a curious cat decides to explore the branches.
Holiday Plants
Holly and ivy, poinsettias and other holiday plants can be toxic to pets or at least cause mild health problems. If you have these kinds of plants in your home for the holidays, make sure your pets can’t chew on them or eat them. Consider using artificial versions of these plants to lower the risk of toxicity.
Holiday Decorations
Dogs and cats can chew on or play with cords for holiday lights, which can cause electric shock or a fire hazard. Keep cords out of their reach to prevent this from happening. Breakable ornaments should go up high on trees out of your pets’ reach. You should also avoid hanging tinsel up altogether. Pets might ingest tinsel, which can cause obstructions in their intestines. If you use candles for decoration, never leave them where pets can get to them.
When you’re not busy with holiday preparations and festivities, spend time with your dog at our community’s fenced-in bark park, which includes agility equipment and a wash station. Please contact us for more details on the pet policy for our apartments in Raleigh, NC.

How you feel can sometimes be as much about your internal attitude as your external circumstances. When your home is full of light and color, it's a simple way to boost your mood. Now is a good time to take your cue from the season. The light from the summer sun can sometimes remind us that our homes are dreadfully dark by comparison. If you're tired of coming home and squinting, here are a few ways to brighten up your apartment.
Change Your Lampshades
Lampshades can have a drastic effect on how you see the light in your home. If you swap out your darker lampshades for lighter ones, there will be more general light in the room but less localized light around the bulb. So as long as you don't need brighter light on one focal area (like the surface of your nightstand), you can buy lighter lampshades or even take them off altogether.
Go for Pops of Color
If the lighting in your home isn't the problem, then perhaps it's a combination of dark furniture and accessories in the rooms. Even if you're averse to bold or showy decorations, color doesn't have to be overblown to be powerful. Bright cushions on the chairs around the kitchen table or a new piece of artwork in your living room can instantly give each space a new feel.
Swap Out the Curtains
Natural light is always going to be best for your psyche. It's not that artificial light is bad for you, it's just that you do need to feel the warmth of the sun. If your curtains are standing in the way, you may need to choose something a little less opaque. Transparent curtains may sacrifice a bit of your privacy, but they can really make a difference in your mood and the way you perceive your apartment.
The apartments in Raleigh, NC don't need a major makeover to get a little brighter, and in fact, may need very little to make a big change for you. If you're looking for an apartment with a little more light and space, The Tribute has just the space for you. Call us for a tour of our available units!

When you make the decision to move into an apartment, you are accepting the fact that you are going to be living in limited space. Even the largest apartments in Raleigh with the most spacious and open floor plans are still inherently limited by the nature of what an apartment is. A lot of people look at downsizing as the process of pushing what you have in a larger space into a smaller space and doing without, but this is the wrong way to look at the situation. When you do make the decision to move from a large area into a smaller apartment, you need to completely reshape your furnishings to fit the new space.
Bringing oversized furniture into a small apartment is hands-down the number one way to make your apartment feel cramped, small and uncomfortable. Even if you have furniture that you love and find super comfortable, it may not be the right fit for your new apartment.
Here are some guidelines to consider when planning out your new space:
- Take into account how much floor space you have before determining what sofa you bring into the living room. While a sectional sofa may be comfortable in a large house, its size can make it difficult to walk around or have accent tables in an apartment. Going smaller with the sofa is a great way to make your space feel larger.
- Think minimalistic when looking for accent furniture like bookshelves and tables. While large, handcrafted oak tables may be beautiful and sturdy, they are going to be difficult to get in and out of an apartment, and they may dominate the room once they are in place.
- Keep everything in proportion. You need to make sure that your furnishings appropriately balance your living space. One piece of furniture should not overpower the home.
When living in an apartment, it is a good idea to cut down on as much clutter as possible, too. Reduce how many books, toys and trinkets that you have out as this will open up the space considerably. Collector items are also not always conducive to making a living space feel light and open. For help finding the perfect spacious layout for your next home, contact us.

Take a Different Route to Work
It may sound simple, but even just taking a different route to work can start your day with a fresh approach. You may discover a new cafe along the way.
Test Drive Your Dream Car
Many of us have a dream car based on a photo we've seen or a review we've read. Consider a trip to the dealer and schedule a test drive. It may either serve to inspire and motivate you or you may decide a different "dream car" may suit you better.

Perhaps one of the more underrated senses we have is the sense of smell. Exciting research and everyday occurrences show the incredible and sometimes wild effects different scents can have on our mood and memory. Just a quick whiff of lilac may trigger a personal memory and evoke emotions related to that memory, while other fragrances have been shown to evoke general emotions. The following is a look at some of the best fragrances shown to help people relax and get them in a better mood as well as why electric wax warmers are a preferred way to release those scents:
3 of the Best Fragrances to Use to Help You Relax in Your Apartment
- Lemon. Because lemon has become so heavily connected with cleanliness, many people associate the scent of lemon and other citrus with cleanliness and order.
- Pine. Winter pine can evoke wintery memories, but this scent is also known for helping people relax and feel more at ease.
- Lavender. Lavender is one of the best scents for use when you need to relax and reduce your anxiety. For some, the summer nature of lavender blossoms may evoke memories of beach days and summer barbecues.
Why Electric Wax Warmers Are the Preferred Fragrance Dispenser
There are several ways to bring the aforementioned fragrances into your Raleigh apartments indoor environment, including candles and room diffusers. However, if you haven't already, we suggest checking out electric wax warmers and scented waxes. Electric wax warmers are much safer to use than candles as they don't have an open flame, and yet they often last just as long. They also are a better long-term choice than room diffusers, which can get expensive and have a proclivity to cause mold if the humidity levels of your home are off.
Experiment and Have Fun
Of course, the best way to find the best scent to help you relax is to experiment! Each of us comes with our own back story, and the fragrances that calm and soothe you may be entirely different from your neighbor's. With an electric wax warmer, it's easy to experiment and find that perfect scent for you. While we can't help you with that, we can help if you have broader issues with your apartment! Contact our maintenance team with any questions or repairs you need in your Tribute apartment.

Working from home is an incredible thing. By default, you have the type of freedom and flexibility that a lot of other people can only dream of. You can make your own hours, you answer to nobody but yourself, and it's generally a situation to be celebrated — if you go about it in the right way, that is. The truth is, your incredible new apartment that doubles as your home office can be your biggest benefit or your worst nightmare if you aren't careful. To make sure your situation is more like the former and less like the latter, there are a few key things you'll want to keep in mind.
Working from home requires you to find the right process that drives results
Just because you don't work a traditional 9-to-5 job in the most literal sense while working from home doesn't mean you shouldn't still act like you do. It is in your own best interest to begin each day as if you were still keeping to strict hours. Try to get up at the same time every morning and do the same things you would do if you were heading out to work. Eat breakfast, have your cup of coffee, and take a shower. These early steps of your routine will help get you into the head space you need to be in to take work seriously. Only instead of hopping in your car at the end of it, you'll sit down in front of your computer and get to work.
Likewise, don't be afraid to change your surroundings if the need arises. Just because you work from home doesn't mean you're confined there. Grab your computer and go to a coffee shop to eliminate distractions. If you feel like you'd rather be watching television but can't afford the break, unplug the TV from the wall for a while or go to the library for a few hours. Working from home is still work, which means that you need to take it seriously or you'll quickly succumb to temptation and will ultimately get a lot less done than you probably hoped for.
If you'd like to find out more information about how to best optimize your day when you work from home, or if you're just eager to learn about some of the incredible apartments in Raleigh that are available that would be perfect for your next home office, please don't delay. Whether you’re a student just starting out or a professional searching through Raleigh apartments to cut living expenses by sharing, you don’t always get to choose who you live with. Sometimes, the perfect roomie ends up being a flatmate who is overbearing, dirty or just plain obnoxious. Here are some helpful tips to help you deal with roommates who may not share your idea of harmonious living.
The Slob
When sharing an apartment with someone who doesn’t clean anything, it can cause serious tension. Most people enjoy living in a clean environment, but some people don’t seem to mind a mess. Your best option is to talk things out and set ground rules. Set up a cleaning schedule for shared spaces and hold your roommate to it. Don’t obsess about private spaces unless they pose an issue due to cockroaches or other pests.
The Party Animal
Some people like their privacy, while some like to have open doors all the time. The best way to avoid this issue is to ask about it before the person moves in. You need to have your private space. If you need to, get a lock on your door to ensure nobody enters your private space while you are gone. Make a schedule that you both agree with that dictates when and how long friends and family can stay. If you don't want people staying on your couch, make that clear from the start!
The Ex
Not many people enjoy living with their exes. Dividing the bills and dealing with life is hard when you’re in love, and it becomes much worse after you break up. If you sign a lease together, it is not always possible to leave the situation after a breakup, and many people don’t want to. After a bad romantic failure, your options are to move out or get the ex to move out. When looking at Raleigh apartments, consider what might happen if both of your names are on the lease. You might be held responsible for all the bills even if you move out.
